Web 2.0 Technology

Why are Tablets a Web 2.0 Technology?

Tablets themselves are not a Web 2.0 technology, but rather are the tool to access them. Tablets allow students to easily access thousands of applications that cover a variety of purposes very easily. Many districts are purchasing Tablets that are 3/4G capable. This allows students to not only access applications in the classroom but also at home. Below is an overview of the different Web 2.0 applications that cover a the different levels of blooms taxonomy.

Social Networking

This type of Web 2.0 application has been growing rapidly over the past several years. These sites include wikis, blogs, and other social forms such as twitter and Facebook. All of these can be easily accessed through an iPad. Many school and business have begun using different social networking applications to their advantage. Not only is it a great way to collaborate with the the classroom or office but communicate with other members of the community.

Collaboration

Very similar to social networking, collaboration can be done through several applications. One application I currently use for collaboration in the classroom is Google Docs. Several students can work on the same document from different computers. It is also works well when working with other teachers. Rather than everyone completing a document then compiling later, the document can be updated by everyone at once.

The following website offers several links to applications that are organized by type.
